Masuk 93 - Bethel 82

In Monroe there was an SWC match-up that might have flown under the radar.  Both Masuk and Bethel are not considered powerhouse swim programs but each do have some powerhouse swimmers and It didn’t take long before we had the first dose of power.

After the Masuk squad of  Briand, Demace, Wheeler and Thornton won the 200 MR in 1:50.89, the first match-up of the night stepped up on the blocks.  Canu Caplashh of Masuk and Tim Royce of Bethel went head to head in the 200 freestyle, with a very strong back half swim Royce won the event in impressive style.  Unfortunately, the timing system failed and there were no back up timers so no time was logged.

Bethel introduced their freshman swimmer Matt Lin in the 200IM with style as he won the event in 2:16.54,  MAsuk took 2-3-4 to open up a 10 point lead going into the 50 free.  Masuk padded their lead, as they took first and second in the 50 free lead by Captain Eric Demace with a 24.02.  In the diving event Bethel took first and second to pull within eight points.  The Masuk duo of Caplash and Bachard combined for another first and second place in the 100 fly led by Caplash’s 55.36.

Grab the broom because Briand, Thornton and Collins of Masuk swept Bethel in the 100 free, Briand led the way with a 52.90.  The 500 free was a showcase for Freshman Matt Lin of Bethel as he swam away with the event in 5:27.35.

The sprint relay event went to the Masuk team of  Demace, Thornton, Collins and Caplash as the posted a 1:38.62.  The 100 back turned out to be a good battle between Masuk freshman William Briand and Bethel’s Tim Joyce, this one went to Joyce with a time of 1:00.03.  The next event was a run away for Masuk’s Demace as he popped a 1:08.84 in the 100 breastroke.  The final event went to Bethel, Jyoce, Velasquez, Lin and Joyce won the 400 FR  in a time of 3:42.07.  Masuk came away witht the win by a score of  93 – 82.
