A very impressive Glastonbury swim team made an hour trek to Fairfield to take on Fairfield Prep in boys swimming.  Prep still riding the wave after their win against rival Greenwich and an under rated Glastonbury would produce one of the best meets of the season to date. Could Prep continue their winning ways or would this underrated team from Glastonbury ruin the Friday night date.

 

During warm up it was very obvious that Glastonbury would have the edge in the diving competition so the need to be successful in the lanes was even more important for Prep.

 

Prep started the meet with a one-three finish in the 200 MR winning the event with a 1:51.43, Prep’s home pool is short course meters.

 

Glastonbury made an early statement in the 200 free when McAllister Milne and Chris Walker dominated with a one – two finish with Milne grabbing the win in 1:59.43 and Walker followed with 2:00.11.  At the point the two touched the wall everyone in the natatorium realized this was not going to be an easy one for the number one ranked team.

 

Well not to be out done, Prep came back with an acey doucey of its own when Freshman Richard Nolan lead the way with a 2:13.97 in the 200 IM followed by teammate Kevin Lydon (2:21.61).

 

The teams would split the 50 Free with Glastonbury’s Matt Mastroianni winning the event with a time of  24.09.  As the teams entered the diving event Prep held a 12 point lead but as mentioned earlier Glastonbury had the edge in this event.  Echon Godfrey would lead Glastonbury to a sweep in the event pulling the Tomahawks within two heading into the second half of the meet.

 

When the water calmed after the 100 Fly we would see Glastonbury get it’s second one-two of the meet. Matt Mastrioanni would pick up his second win of the night with a 59.96 followed by teammate Adam Kim.  This would give Glastonbury its first lead of the night  49-45.

 

Oliver Rus would swim his first individual event as he won the 100 free in a 53.71 to give the lead back to Prep, the score now was 56-54 with 5 events left in the meet.

 

The veteran and the Frosh would be the title of the next event as Prep’s Richard Nolan would be introduced to McAllister Milne in the 400 freestyle.  The two battled throughout the entire swim but Milne would pull away in the last 75 meters to win the event for Glastonbury but with Prep taking two – three – four tipped the score towards Prep 65-61.

 

Glastonbury’s quartet of Mastrioanni, Kim, Walker and Milne would out dual Prep to  win the 200 Free Relay bringing Glastonbury back within two points.

 

Prep then would dominate the 100 back taking first and second led by Liam Colleran’s 1:00.44 widening the lead to six entering the 100 Breast.  Oliver Rus crushed the competition in the 100 Breast rolling in with a 1:06.94, which would essentially seal the outcome of the meet.

 

The 400 free relay would have Glastonbury win in convincing fashion over Preps top relay but when the splashes settled Prep would walk away with a win 98-88.

 

All that said, the real competition came when both teams merged together and had a spirited battle of water bottle flip.  The left lane won but there might have been a little trickery a foot as there was a mysterious disappearance of swimmers.
