Amity 96 - Hand 90
On a balmy Wednesday night in the Orange Community Pool two SCC swimming powers came together to settle a score, Amity hosted the Tigers of Hand in evening swim. This was an anticipated match up by many, Amity the tenth ranked team in the state needed to prove they can win in a competitive challenge.
Although the meet kicked off with Amity winning the 200 Medley Relay, Hand’s relay team broke their school record according to Hand Coach Christins Forristall. The Tigers would have a difficult time beating the frontline swimmers of Amity. Sergey Savelyev of Amity won the 200 Free (1:52.71) but Hand took places 2,3,and 4 to come out ahead in the event. Amity’s big gun Colin Roy won the 200 IM in a time of 2:03.77 but again Hand took places 2 and 3 to keep the meet close. The teams split the points for the 50 Free 8 to 8 with Hand’s Chris Wu winning the event with a 23.13.
Entering the diving event Amity held on to a six point lead but Hand diver Teddy Zeng, Maloney and Callahan would capture places 1,2 and 6. After the diving the two teams were tied entering the second half of the meet.
Amity would sweep the 100 Fly lead by Kevin Yanagisawa with a time of 55.12. Colin Roy would win the 100 Free in a time of 49.23. Amity would win the 500 Free, 100 Back, 100 Breast, which put them up by four entering the final relay.
Hand needed to take 1-2 to win the meet or 1-3 to tie. The Hand relay got out to a 1.5 second lead after the first two swimmers then with a strong swim Amity’s Yanagisawa tie it up after the third leg creating a dual between Roy and Wu. Colin Roy split a 47.3 to help Amity win the final relay and ultimately the meet.
