On the evening of Valentines Day, Brookfield took a 15-minute drive to Newtown High School to celebrate together.   As you entered the pool, it was hard to miss the Brookfield crew and their newly bleached heads – they all looked the same! 

 

The meet kicked of with a good race between the two teams in the 200 MR which was tight, Fagerholm, Delia,  Annesley  all finished to set up Tom Horan ‘s sizzling anchor leg swim to beat Brookfield with a time of 1:46.57.

 

The 200 free was the next event and it appeared there might be a little trickery with the teams two top swimmers choosing outside lanes.   This was a good one the two swimmers, Osika of Brookfield and Irving of Newtown.  The race was entertaining and  tight all the way through until the final two laps where Irving pulled ahead to win the event in a very gutsy swim with a 1:55.94.

 

The 200 IM was a strong event for Newtown as they swept the event led by Newtown’s Stout in a time of 2:07.21.  The 50 free was the next event to step up to the blocks, Tom Horan of Newtown appeared to be focused and ready.  After the horn, Newtown’s Horan popped a 22.25 to win the event and set a new pool record giving Newtown a 16-point lead going into diving.

 

Newtown grabbed the win and a third place in the diving event , Gaynor won the event with a solid performance.

 

Stout’s smoking 54.69 in the 100 fly captured the win for Newtown and his two teammates Suba and Annesley joined in for a sweep!  The score now grew to a 30 point lead which essentially sealed the deal for Newtown.  Just off his pool record performance in the 50 Tom Horan won the 100 free going away with a time of 50.31.

 

Fagerholm cruised to 35 second win over the next competitor in the 500 free with a time of 5:06.26 extending the lead to 34 points as the teams entered the sprint relay.  Newtown’s team of  Suba, Annesley, Lawrence and Stout won it’s ninth consecutive event with a 1:36.72.

 

In the 100 back Connors ended the drought for Brookfield as he won the 100 Back with a 1:00.18.  The 100 Breast went to Brookfield as well with Becker getting the win with a 1:08.60.  Brookfield then captured the final event of the night the 400 free relay.  Newtown was a little strong for Bleached Blond Brookfield Bobcats winning the meet 92-88.
