Naugatuck 94 - Oxford 90

At the Oxford High School Pool the Greyhounds of Naugatuck came to sink the hometown Wolverines.   This NVL match up offered a potential Moran v Bombery show down which would have been the highlight of the meet.  Both teams had great entry cheers as Oxford rumbled out of their locker-room with a loud modified rendition of  “Oi-Oi-Oi” and Naugy took over the starting block area with their cheer that shook the walls.

Oxford opened the meet with a win in the 200 MR going 1:47.43 with Moran leading off in the backstroke.  The stage was set for a Moran v Bombery showdown in the 200 Free or was it …when the official blew the whistle and the swimmers step u on the block only half the duo was ready to swim.   Spencer Moran stepped up and won the event with a relaxing 1:52.10 as he was not pressed during the event.  After the 50 free the meet was tight 32-30 favoring Naugatuck.  The diving event favored the Greyhounds as they went 1-3 in to grab a 6-point lead.  As the meet progressed the teams traded the wins but Naugy seemed to have the depth.  Now the 100 Free,  will there be a Bombery v Moran show down?  Nope!  Oxford’s Spencer Moran steps up again and smokes a 49.00 to win the event and break the Oxford Team record.   Shortly thereafter we finally were able to see Evan Bombery swim the 500 Free and he ran away with the event posting a 5:08.98.

Even with Fogarty’s 1:05.68 win in the 100 Breast, Naugatuck was too tough and would clinch the meet win send the teams into relays that were now for bragging rights.  Naugatuck won the meet 94-90.
