Two SCC swimming powerhouses both undefeated came together to battle to remain perfect.  This would be a tall task for the Rams as no other team has been able to crack the machine that is Prep.  Throughout the swimming community the rumblings that Prep could be the team that walks away as the best in March have become louder each week.

 

The meet opened with an awesome rendition of the Star Spangled Banner by Cheshire’s Richmond Le and Ethan Fielding, stunning.

 

The opening event, 200MR,  is one that has been a strong one for Prep all year.  The 200 MR team of Collrean, Rus, Yarmousik and Duffy has been unbeatable all year,   Prep won the event by five seconds posting a 1:50.40. this group is a favorite to win states.

 

The 200 free was won by Ben Brewer in a 2:01.88 but the two – three – four finish of Prep negated Brewers winning swim.  After two events Prep led 19-11 over a very good Cheshire team.  Freshman Richard Nolan did what he has done all season by winning the 200IM by a half a lap, his time 2:13.38.   Prep now was leading by ten after three events.  Even with Eigner’s win in the 50 free  (25.00) Cheshire split the event as Prep to remain 10 points down.  Fairfield Prep’s diving group swept the event led by Andres Nayares. 

 

Entering the back half of the meet, Prep pick up where they left off  by winning first and second in the 100 fly with Yarmousik leading the way with a 1:02.93.  Fairfield Prep would now take a 27 point lead into an event that has been very strong for the Jesuits all year. Oliver Rus would win the 100 free handily popping a 54.37.

 

Cheshire’s Ben Brewer would win the 400 free with what looked like a relaxing swim of 4:22.46 but again Prep showed their depth with a 2-3-4 finish extending the lead to 33 with the sprint relay just a ahead.

 

Cheshire’s number one relay won the 200 FRR and with a Prep DQ the rams would grab the 3 spot as well allowing them to trim the lead to 27.  But with the strong swims by Prep’s Colleran in the 100 back (59.96) and Rus’ 100 Breast (1:08.39) the meet was out of reach for the Rams entering the 400 FRR.  Cheshire won the final event.  Prep maintained its dominance in the pool as they move towards the SCC Championship meet.  Prep 107 – Cheshire 76.  This time Prep was too strong for Cheshire but we will see the Rams in the mix come championship time.
